•Lauren and I became great friends while catering for fancy events at the Denver Art Museum and the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Long hours, nearly bored to tears, working coat check till 3 a.m. is when we really bonded. Passing time with conversations about art, music, and dreams of traveling to Europe with a journal and a "yes man" type attitude.

•Lauren is a realism artist and some of my favorite pieces from her collection are done in oil paint or chalk. She's going to grad school in Santa Fe this fall and hopes to become an art therapist one day. I've always admired her courage, her willingness to try new things, to meet new people and her unwavering aversion to definite plans.

•Lauren is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. Her adventure will begin in Italy and end on a 4 day walking tour on the coast of Ireland. In order for Lauren to prep for her trip, she has transformed into a minimalist—a task that sounds absolutely daunting to me right now. But not so for Lauren. In fact, her energy—so light and free—has me both intrigued and inspired to elaborate on this lifestyle.

•Is it weird that I'm channeling Huckleberry Finn for this look? While Mark Twain's actual character may have been portrayed as "suspect" at times and certainly has no real reflection of Lauren's actual character or dialogue, Im attempting to capture the adventurous, daring, and dreamy imagery of Mr. Finn.

SPRING HAIR TRENDS

•Braids can be easily achieved especially if you enhance your natural wave with a diffuser and a little "blow and set". When dry, Scrunch in a little "beach day" (a light weight sea salt spray for some extra grip and texture). Spray a little "texturiza" volume-in texture spray, for some extra volume and separation. Finally, separate hair into two sections and braid two Dutch braids at the nape of your neck. Wrap them up and over the top of your head. Pin and secure where needed. As a finishing touch, define and piece out parts of your braid with "second day" defining paste.

Who is the "Out to Lunch Girl"?

Anna Embry

Out to Lunch is more than just a another online portfolio.

Yes, I do showcase my long time experience in the Beauty and Fashion industry.

untitled-3.jpg

Yes, this is where you can book online or contact me directly (my preferred method of booking) for in-salon services.

Yes, you can see my work as a creative concept/director.

Out to Lunch is more than that. Yes, according to the "urban-dictionary", calling someone "out to lunch" is the West-Coast version of defining them as a little coo-coo bananas... Off the map... Out-of-her-god-damn-mind. I actually take that as a compliment. I built my first business based purely on principal of refusing to be basic, refusing to let fear of the unknown influence what I want from life, and most importantly- EMBRACING my child-like enthusiasm.

So who is this, "Out to Lunch" girl, she's eclectic, she's one of a kind, she's spunky, fashion forward, intellectual, she's clever, sensitive, bold, and most importantly- she's a risk taker. My fashion hero and founder of People's Revolution, Kelly Cutrone, said it best when she wrote her second book, "Normal gets you Nowhere". The Out to Lunch girl seeks adventure. She thinks outside the box. She's openminded, she's brave- oh and most importantly she's A BAD BITCH, she takes no prisoners. She fights for what she believes in.... Oh and she's bat shit crazy, as most intelligent women are ;)

Poolside, Summer 2018 is my apparel line designed specifically for the "Out to Lunch" girl. All Poolside apparel and accessories are curated, hand-made, and designed in the U.S.A. My curation is vintage inspired (specifically 1960's/1970's).

I hope you enjoy my Summer 2018 collection. A pop-up shop will be hosted at my first baby, Ruth and James Salon. Follow @getNpoolside to stay in the loop!

Out to Lunch- Be back soon,

XOXO Anna

MOODS 02/05/2018

First of all, I'm always in the mood for Henrik. He's by far, my favorite photographer. Right now, I'm particularly drawn to the rawness of an image. Wet hair on hot summer skin, the ripples in a pool and the raw organic pattern they create, bright colors as they relate to the fruitfulness of spring/summer, the look of sun-dried hair after its been soaked in a chlorine filled pool or the salty ocean waves.

Maybe all this steamed from the current snow situation Denver has been graced with (ughhhhhhh). Or it cold be that I want what I simply cannot have... But for the sake of art, I think it has something to do with the easiness of summer and the essence of youth that follows. Sun kissed skin, puffy just-took-a-nap-on-my-tummy-eyes, undone, snarled hair. The natural use of negative space at a pool or a beach. It relays so interesting on film. Love it.

Out To Lunch, Back Soon,

XOXO Anna
